Blessing of the Fisheries 2014
The Blessing of the Fisheries took place on Sunday 29th June 2014. Happily, this year, the Blessing of the Fisheries coincided with our Patronal Feast of St. Peter, so the Church had a double celebration. The Fisheries were blessed by The Right Reverend Michael Turnbull CBE, former Bishop of Durham, during a service on Folkestone Stade at 3.15 pm, following the traditional procession from St. Peter’s Church. The Worshipful Town Mayor of Folkestone, Councillor Alan North, led the procession of the Cinque Port Mayors, several of whom were present.
The hymn singing was accompanied by the Hythe Town Band. After a return procession and short service in the Church, where ‘Peter the Fisherman’ was sung with great gusto, refreshment was enjoyed by all!
